I am sad to say that this will be the last shipment of new books for this school year, but let’s look on the bright side – NEW BOOKS ARE HERE!!

Stop by and check out the selections. You can find them in the “New Books”, “Girls’ Picks”, and “Guys’ Picks” sections! We have some great stuff like: Sent, the second book to Missing by Haddix; Royal Blood, the sixth book in the Vampire Kisses series; some of the Twilight books now in Spanish; lots and lots of new Goosebumps books; a new series called My Secret Hollywood Life; the whole Warriors series, and more! Here are some pics to tide you over until you can actually come into the media center:

And we’re back to the grind! But lucky for all of us – we only have three weeks of school until Winter Break! Yeah! It should be a great three weeks! You can do it – three weeks is nothing!

We are in the holiday spirit in the Media Center! Stop by and see our decorations and listen to some great Holiday tunes as well. We will also be putting up a new bulletin board in the hallway outside the Media Center this week. This bulletin board will feature some great “winter” reads. You’ll have to check them out! You will probably want something good to read over Winter Break!

Have you seen this??? It’s the movie preview for the new Percy Jackson & The Olympians first film, The Lightning Thief.  Reviews of this movie say it’s going to be as big or BIGGER than Harry Potter. The preview looks so cool!!

I promised some video of the Atlanta Falcons visiting South Hall Middle yesterday, so here it is:                 Enjoy!

That’s right! Today’s super special surprise was a visit from the Falcons. Several special students were chosen to eat a special Thanksgiving Day feast with several Falcons football players and a couple of the Falcons cheerleaders! (How many times can I say special? )

Ranger’s Apprentice Book One: The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan

I thought I would do a “guy” book review for a change and this one is great!! This book is about an orphan named Will. He is small for his age and therefore can not train to become a warrior, the highest respected job in the land. Luckily at age 15 Will is chosen to become a Ranger. The Rangers are like the FBI or CIA of today’s time. They assist the warriors in defeating enemies, but always do so with secret skills like moving without being heard and spying. Many of the people believe Rangers possess magic, but it’s really just super awesome war skills. Just as Will is learning his new profession, Morgarath, Lord of the Mountains starts gathering evil warriors in preparation to fight Will’s homeland. Is Will ready to fight? Will he be able to handle the “evil” Morgarath has gathered? Can they defeat Morgarath? Check out this book to find out!

If you enjoyed any fantasy books like Harry Potter or anything with a “magical” twist, you’ll enjoy this book. And if you like this book, there are four more in this series and they get better and better!

I have uploaded several pictures and videos, plus you can find links to the Reading Bowl Books and more! Even though I now have a new website, I will continue to keep this Blog here (because I like it!). Maybe one day I’ll move this Blog over to the new website, but for now it will stay put here on WordPress.

Today is the first meeting of the South Hall Middle Reading Bowl Team. It will be right after school in the media center until 4:30 p.m.  I hope many of you attend! We have a great selection of books to read this year and as always competition day will be fun, fun, fun!!! If you can’t make it today please stop by the media center and talk to me because it’s not too late to join!

I also want to take this time today to honor all our Veterans here in the United States. Today is Veterans Day. Did you know that as of 2007 we had 23.6 million military Veterans in the United States? Please take a moment to stop by The Youth Act Club’s wonderful Veterans bulletin board down by the cafeteria. It displays many relatives of teachers here at South Hall who are Veterans. It also has one special teacher on the board – Dr. Evans!!

Good-bye Book Fair, see you in the Spring! Everything’s packed up and ready to be shipped back. Thank you to everyone for visiting the Book Fair and making a purchase! Every purchase helps South Hall Middle earn money for more books for our library!

And in case you were curious, the winners of the Gumball Guessing Game were Fatima Ndiaye in 6th grade and Raul Sanchez in 7th grade. The total number of gumballs in the jar was 808!!! Most people guessed from 200 to 500, which was WAY too low!!! Keep this in mind for the Spring when we will have another guessing game!
