Poem in Your Pocket Day is coming soon!!!

Posted by Laura Losch on May 11, 2010

That’s right! This Thursday is Poem in your Pocket Day!!! I’ll be handing out poems down by the buses. Then throughout the day, if I ask you if you have a poem in your pocket, and if YOU DO, I will give you a prize!! So gather up your favorite poem and make sure it gets into your pocket on Thursday.

Be on the look out because I can show up anywhere, at anytime. Maybe even the girls’ bathroom (of course not the boys’ bathroom, I’m not that crazy!).

Make Waves at your Library!

Posted by Laura Losch on May 4, 2010

What are you doing this summer? Don’t have any ideas yet? Head down to your local library (either Spout Springs or Blackshear, whichever is closest to you) and participate in their Teen Programs this summer. The program runs every Monday throughout the summer. They have some cool things planned like Henna Tattoos and a Wii Game Day. Check their website out for exact details and locations.

And please remember – ALL (and that means each and every) books are due next Thursday, May 13th. If I don’t get your books back, you will not be allowed to participate in Yearbook Day or 8th Grade Day. So read up and get those books turned back in to me. Thank you!!

National Library Week. . .going on now!

Posted by Laura Losch on April 15, 2010

Did you know that this week (April 11-17) is National Library Week?

Author Neil Gaiman is the official spokesperson for National Library Week. Remember him? He wrote the popular book Coraline and the creepier and a little less popular book The Graveyard Book. This is a week to celebrate all types of libraries – public, school, college, and so on. So this week take a moment to visit Blackshear Place or ME in the media center. Browse the books – you may find something you like! And with the CRCT right around the corner – you really, really need a book to read after each section of the test is finished. If you get overwhelmed by our 13,000 book selections, talk to me. I can help you find that perfect story!

I’m so happy and proud to be YOUR librarian – so show me some love and check out a book today!  🙂

I’m BAAAAACCCCCKKKKK!

Posted by Laura Losch on April 13, 2010

Have you missed me? Did you even realize I was gone? I hope so!

After having a baby girl named Mabry, I’m back for the rest of the school year. These next six weeks are going to fly by!

Next week starts CRCT testing – I hope you’re ready!

After CRCT, all 7th grade Social Studies classes will be in the media center for a fun lesson on Kente Cloth. We’re going to make some Kente Cloth!!!

Then on Thursday, May 13th, we’re celebrating Poetry all day with Poem in Your Pocket Day!! You probably remember this event from last year. I will be providing poems for everyone to keep in their pocket that day. If I ask you if you have a poem in your pocket on that day AND IF YOU DO, I will give you a special treat!

So there’s lot to look forward to in these upcoming weeks!

Also don’t forget to return all your overdue books BEFORE the dance on April 30th!!!

It’s great to be back – stop by the media center and say hello!!

Chad Crews is coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Laura Losch on October 21, 2009

Who is Chad Crews you say? Why just the coolest magician around! And I’m not talking silly magic tricks – he does cool tricks, like making tables float and he will do it right in our own media center! He will be here this Friday to do his magic show, Authors of Mystery and Horror for 1st and 2nd periods in 8th grade. I’m so sorry if you have Language Arts for 3rd or 4th periods, I could only book Chad for 1st and 2nd. Please check out his website and watch the promotional video he has created for this show (it’s on the home page). It’s spooky and scary and awesome! I can’t wait!!
